Coercion may be charged in any situation where a person by use of a threat compels or induces a another to engage in conduct which the latter has a legal right to abstain from, or to abstain from conduct which he or she has a legal right to engage in.

Classification: Gross misdemeanor. A gross misdemeanor carries up to a maximum sentence of 364 days in jail and a $5,000 fine.
